Segments

With segments, you can divide your customers into groups based on your own criteria. Segments are created using the same rules engine that is used elsewhere in the system (e.g., automations). This makes it possible to combine different parameters across multiple levels – customer, campaign, and subscription – and thereby define very precise customer groups.

As an example, you can find all customers who do not have a subscription – neither active nor stopped. These customers are therefore either paying for others' subscriptions or receiving a free newsletter. You can then further filter based on whether the customer has a newsletter field filled in, in order to place them in the correct segment.

Segments can be assigned colors and used across the system – both in subscriber overviews, exports, and filters. This makes it easier to work with data in a structured way and quickly find relevant customer groups.

You can also save frequently used customer filters as segments, so you don’t have to set up the same filters again and again.

Create segments

Segments are created under Account > Primary settings. Then click on the link to segments.

  1. Click on “+ Define new segment”;

  2. Enter the segment name and optionally an external ID;

  3. Choose a color for the segment:

    The color can be selected from a list of predefined colors, or you can enter a six-digit hex code for a specific color. You can find inspiration for colors and hex codes online, for example on RapidTables.com or Wikipedia.

    It is recommended to use dark or strong colors so that the segments are easy to distinguish.

  4. Define the segment content:

    Once the basic information has been entered, the segment is defined using the filtering engine. Here you select the criteria that customers in the segment must meet.

Once the segment has been saved, it can:

  • be used in automations, filters, and exports:

  • be seen as a label on the customer’s master data:

  • be displayed as a column in the subscriber overview:

Segments are internal only – customers cannot see which segment they belong to.
