Termination and cancellation of subscription

Updated this week

A subscription can be terminated via the publisher interface or by the subscriber themselves via the self-service portal, provided this option has been allowed.

Termination in the publisher interface offers several options so that you can handle the specific situation with a subscriber - whether they are satisfied or dissatisfied - in an appropriate way.

The first choice is when the termination should take effect. The subscription can be terminated immediately, at the end of the current subscription period, or on a chosen future date.

If you choose to terminate immediately, you can decide whether the subscriber should pay up until the stop date, up until the start or end of the current period, or only pay what the subscriber has already paid on the subscription, thereby settling the financial matter right away.

The last option is relevant, for example, if there are past periods where the subscriber still owes payment, and you determine that it does not make sense to attempt to collect the money. At the top of the page, you can see which periods are unpaid, so you can identify what is being waived.

Paying up until the start of the current period is typically relevant if the subscriber has already paid, for example via a payment agreement, but raises objections and wants a refund.

Depending on the situation, there may be some overlap so that two choices end up having the same practical result.

If termination is set for a future date, the system assumes that payment should be made up until that date.

Based on your selection, a stop can result in certain periods being billed for less or not at all, and can also trigger crediting of already issued invoices.

If a stop date is chosen that falls in the middle of a subscription period that has not yet started, the invoicing for that period will take the stop into account and will only invoice up to the stop date.
