Alternative addresses and split delivery (newspapers)

Updated today

It is possible to add alternative delivery addresses to each subscription.

Alternative means a different delivery address than the subscriber’s primary address. In this way, a subscriber can have subscriptions delivered to different addresses.

It is also possible to have a single subscription delivered to different addresses on different weekdays. This is known as split delivery. A typical example is a subscriber who receives the newspaper at the office on weekdays and at home during the weekend—or at home on weekdays and at a summer house during the weekend.

You must first decide whether you want to offer split delivery or only alternative addresses that apply to all weekdays. Only one of these options should be configured, as they otherwise conflict with each other. The two configurations are explained below.

Setting up the option for alternative addresses (without split delivery)

  • In the top left menu, select “Fields”

  • Click “New field for” and choose “Subscriptions”

  • Under “Short name”, call it e.g. “Alternative address”

  • Under Type, select “Address”

  • Under Features, check “Delivery address”

  • Under Attached products, select the printed editions — and only these

  • Click “Save” to add the field

Setting up the option for split delivery (including alternative addresses)

  • In the top left menu, select “Fields”

  • Click “New field for” and choose “Subscriptions”

  • Under “Short name”, call it e.g. “Alternative address per weekday” (or just “Alternative address” if it's obvious that weekdays can be selected)

  • Under Type, select “Address per weekday”

  • Under Features, choose “Delivery address per weekday”

  • Under Attached products, select the printed editions — and only these

  • Under “Available weekdays”, select the weekdays on which publications are issued

  • Click “Save” to add the field

Using alternative addresses and split delivery

The subscriber can then choose an alternative delivery address via self-service—either generally or per weekday, depending on the setup. For subscriptions containing products linked to alternative delivery addresses (i.e., the custom field you created), there will be a button labeled Add delivery address. Here, a new address can be entered, and if applicable, the weekdays for which that address should apply can be selected. Weekdays not selected will default to the subscriber’s primary address.

Note: If split delivery is enabled, multiple different alternative addresses can be set for different weekdays—the system ensures that only one alternative address is active per weekday.

Likewise, an alternative address can be added via the publisher interface. This is done directly on the subscription, under Edit.
